Keynote for 2015 Conference Announced!

MAEOE is very happy to announce, Dr. J. Drew Lanham will be returning to our conference in 2015 as our Key Note Speaker.

J. Drew Lanham is a native of Edgefield, South Carolina and a Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Clemson University where he teaches and conducts research in the areas of wildlife management, land and conservation ethic and field ornithology. Drew has been at Clemson University 17 years and is an award-winning teacher and researcher. A lifelong naturalist, birder and passionate hunter, he speaks extensively on natural resources conservation to professional and lay audiences alike with a focus on blending science and motivating others to passionately observe and conserve the flora and fauna of his beloved southern landscape. He is an award-winning broadcaster as a co-host of a popular birding and natural history show aired through the Clemson University’s Your Day format on SC ETV Public Radio.

Drew is a member of ASLE (The Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment) and the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA). An alumnus of several Wildbranch Writing Retreats(Craftsbury Common, VT), the Environmental Writing Workshop (Missoula, MT) and the Goldenrod Writing Workshop (Missoula MT), he has also taught at the Imagination in the Ruins Environmental Writing Workshop (Spartanburg, SC) with fellow southern writers John Lane and Janisse Ray. Drew is a member of the Whole Thinking Community at Knoll Farm (Fayston, VT) and an inaugural Audubon Society Together Green Fellow.

Drew sees his professional passion and personal missions converging to define sustainability and conservation in new ways. A major focus of this effort is to tell the stories of African- American connections to nature in the Southeast and beyond. Drew lives in the Upstate of South Carolina with his wife Janice. They have two adult children, Kimberly Alexis and Donovan Colby.
