Sandy Point State Park, Annapolis, MD

The annual Youth Summit is held at Sandy Point State Park, along the shores of the majestic Chesapeake Bay. This event is for all Maryland Schools. Teachers and students are invited to discover programs and resources for their schools, through hands-on learning with local environmental education providers. It is a day of celebration for new and re-certifying Green Schools and Green Centers. Whether or not you are receiving an award, attendees participate in award ceremonies, youth leadership activities, and the environmental literacy fair.

Every school in Maryland is invited – Fee: $2 per student, chaperones and teacher (The fee helps defer the costs of this event). Contact communications@maeoe.org if you are interested in bringing more than 100 people.  We are limited to 3000 people total and want to allow as many schools to attend as possible.

Green Schools Award Ceremony

The ceremony honors schools that successfully fulfilled the areas which form the framework of the Maryland Green School Program:  professional development, curricular integration, best management practices, community engagement, and celebration.  Newly certified schools and centers will receive the Maryland Green Flag, a symbol of their continued commitment to the environment. In addition, schools will be re-certified based on their continuing efforts. Over 560 Maryland schools are now current MD Green Schools.

Environmental Literacy and Green Jobs Fair

Learn about the many exciting programs and organizations offering environmental learning and resources for schools. With over 50 learning stations for all ages, the Fair is designed to empower youth in short interactive learning sessions.  Participants will learn to apply knowledge at school, home and in their communities to reduce pollution, decrease waste, increase habitat, limit carbon emissions, and create healthy learning and living environments. This year, we will have a special area dedicated to Green Jobs and Youth Leadership. With a focus on high school students, we will highlight career opportunities, education opportunities, and leadership opportunities for the next generation of environmental leaders.
